Skills Inventory
print media
More than ten years of practical experience in writing, editing and layout of periodical and promotional materials is augmented by two years of study at a top Pacific Northwest university and working in its library. Through that, I was able to hone my research and writing skills in many genres. I began shooting concert photos in the late 01980s, did glamour portraits in the mid-01990s, and studied nature and art photography and digital image manipulation at Marylhurst University. Since January 02004, I have done newspaper and ad production through my design business for the Columbia Gorge Weekly and several local non-profits.
outdoor/environmental
The bulk of my studies at Marylhurst were environmentally-oriented, and projects and presentations consistently related to Pacific Northwest issues. I am particularly interested in and have reported on watershed and forest ecology and restoration, wild and edible native plants and sustainable land use. A significant amount of time with the Northwest Service Academy was also spent researching and educating others on these topics. In addition, I have a lifetime of outdoor skills going back to the Girl Scouts beginning in the mid-01970s.
project/event coordination and promotion
Since working at the college radio station in the mid-01980s, events and promotions have been two of my favorite activities, from managing bands to booking live music shows. Most recently coordinated numerous day-long education and service events through my AmeriCorps position. Helped produce an independent music showcase in Chicago in 01992, and organized voter awareness events for Rock the Vote in Las Vegas in 01996. Planned theme parties at the Northshore in Bingen, and volunteered four years straight at the NXNW Music Conference in Portland, OR. Also coordinated logistics for large groups staying at the Bingen School Inn.
managerial
After becoming co-music director of the college radio station at the University of Toledo, I have often ended up in management positions of many sorts. Retail, bar/restaurant, and lodging are three service fields since the late 01980s where I have been responsible for day-to-day operations, supervision, product and supply ordering, scheduling, hiring and termination. My AmeriCorps position was also supervisory. Currently sit on the steering committee for the Gorge Local Currency Cooperative.
clerical/retail
Fifteen years of experience in office procedure, data entry, money handling, bookkeeping, phones, merchandising and customer service provides skills applicable to nearly any type of work situation. Have worked in environments as varied as health food stores and an international hostel to numerous music stores and a Las Vegas casino.
